Reading room in Hämeenlinna reopen with advance booking

The customer service and reading room in Hämeenlinna will remain closed until 21 June 2021.

However, we have made special arrangements to provide limited access to materials in the Hämeenlinna reading rooms to students, doctoral researchers, other academic and scientific researchers, and persons engaging in other regular research work. Access can be granted from Tuesday to Friday between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m.

Visiting the reading rooms always requires advance booking, because the number of seats for researchers has been reduced and on-site services have been limited. A maximum of 10 persons can be simultaneously present.

In addition, only limited guidance and advice will be provided to those who have booked the facilities in advance in order to keep close contact between researchers and personnel to a minimum. Guidance and advice for other customers will only be provided online or by email or phone during the opening hours of the reading rooms.

If you need to use the reading room services in Hämeenlinna, please do the following:

  • Order the material you need in advance through the Astia online service. If the material cannot be ordered through the online service, contact the Hämeenlinna reading room personnel to agree on ordering and delivering the material (tel. +358 29 533 7140).
  • When you receive a notification indicating that the material you have ordered has been sent to the reading room, book a visit to the reading room by email (kirjaamo@arkisto.fi). As the message subject, please use ”Booking for the reading room / Hämeenlinna”.
  • During your visit, follow the coronavirus instructions of the National Archives of Finland and any other instructions given by the personnel.

The National Archives of Finland requires that persons performing research work with special arrangements observe the safety distance, wear a face mask and observe good hand hygiene in the reading rooms and other facilities of the National Archives of Finland.
