The Ehrensvärd Society celebrates its 100th anniversary this year. The purpose of the Society is to make Suomenlinna and its history known to the public and researchers. The anniversary weekend on 21st – 22nd August features various events with themes relating to different stages of history in the fortress island.
The Hämeenmaa minelayer of the Finnish Navy and the Visby-class vessel HMS Helsingborg of the Swedish Navy visit Suomenlinna and can be seen at the Matti Kurki pier and at the main pier. M/s Wihelm Carpelan arrives from Turku for a visit and is to be seen in Artillery Bay.
The Old Militia of Helsinki is performing in the spirit of the 18th century and the grandeur of the historical costumes of Helsinki Société can be followed on Susisaari island on Saturday. The rococo performance of the La Porte du Temps dance company is to be seen at Tenaille von Fersen on Saturday. Linda Zilliacus and Elina Mustonen perform at a home concert at the Ehrensvärd Museum on Sunday.
During the guided tours you hear about the secrets and fates of the fortification’s past, and during the children’s adventure tour we will be seeking the lost treasure of King Gustav III. During the cannon sloop Diana’s sailing you can enjoy the sea aboard this historical vessel.
Entrance is free to all programmes and guidance tours, but because of the coronavirus restrictions some of the events require advance registration.
