Photography permits
You need a photography permit to take pictures at the National Archives. Apply by sending an email to [email protected].
Tell us in your application:
- subject of the photo shoot (material/person)
- nature of the photo shoot (still/video)
- estimated duration of the photo shoot
- desired location
- necessary special arrangements.
Free to use photographs
Our media bank includes photographs of the National Archives’ directors. Also the photographs available at Flickr and Wikimedia Commons can also be used freely.
The digital materials of the National Archives are generally not subject to copyright restrictions, so they can be used in both paper and digital publications. Digital materials can be found by using the Astia search.
