- The branch and the reading room are closed during holidays. On the eve of a public holiday, the reading room closes at 16.00.

- Material is delivered to the reading room on Wednesdays and Thursdays 9 am–11 am and 12 noon–3 pm.

Contact the National Archives’ shared service number +358 29 533 7490 for matters related to visiting a reading room. We will offer service at the number from Tuesday to Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. We will offer service in Swedish from Tuesday to Friday from noon to 2 p.m. at +358 29 533 7491.
It is recommended that you order the documents you want in advance on our Astia online service so that they are ready when you arrive in the reading room. The orders are not accepted by phone.
Please also keep in mind that the chat service on our website is open from Monday to Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m. In particular, we answer quick questions related to the online services and digital materials.
Arrival instructions
- Public transportation: The nearest local and long-distance bus stops are at the Natural Resources Institute Finland and the University. Those coming from Lappeenranta and Imatra are recommended to get off at the city centre.
- Parking: The parking area of the Joensuu University Library is about 50 metres from the archive. Parking in the campus area is free of charge from September to May Mon-Fri 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. At other times, parking is free of charge. Parking fees do not apply to maintenance and inva parking.
Accessibility
The main entrance is suitable for people with reduced mobility. By ringing the bell, the staff will open the front doors to their full width, if necessary.
The interior is accessible. The accessible toilet is on the entrance floor. Guide dogs are allowed.
