Using the materials

You can use the material stored in the National Archives for scientific research, hobbyist research or other purposes.

Digital public material is freely available in the National Archives’ online service, Astia.
Non-digitised, analogous material can be examined in the reading rooms of the National Archives’ branch offices. The service is provided free of charge.

Citation of materials retained in the National Archives

Since 2017, only the National Archives have been marked as the storage location for archives/documents in the source references. The branch where the archive or document is stored should not be indicated in the source references.
