Our current digital operating environment is undergoing change, and the threats directed at it directly affect societal preparedness. There has also been considerable discussion about information security of supply. However, as a concept, information security of supply is new and has many definitions.
The purpose of this project is to produce a shared understanding of what digital information security of supply means for archival actors and businesses. The project maps how different actors perceive information security of supply as part of their practical operating environment.
Additionally, the project maps various technical solutions that can be used to verify the authenticity of digital information. Following the mapping, one of the identified alternatives will be selected for testing at the National Archives of Finland, and an assessment will be made of whether it would be beneficial for verifying the authenticity of digitized archival material.
The project is a collaborative initiative in which South-Eastern Finland University of Applied Sciences Ltd (Xamk) participates as administrator, with the National Archives of Finland and the Central Archives for Finnish Business Records (ELKA) as co-implementers.
The intended outcome of the project is increased awareness, capability, and collaboration opportunities for archival and business actors in applying information security of supply, ensuring the reliability of archived information, and developing long-term preservation of information. Additionally, business actors' awareness, capability, and collaboration opportunities in ensuring the reliability of business information and developing sustainable business operations have increased.
The National Archives of Finland is participating in the project from 1 March 2026 to 31 December 2026.
The project is funded by the Regional Council of South Savo and the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF). The total budget of the project is EUR 427,130, of which the National Archives of Finland's share is EUR 61,746.
