Some materials of the National Archives of Finland will be transferred from Helsinki to Mikkeli in September 2025
Preparation for the renovation of Rauhankatu.
A large-scale renovation is planned for the National Archives of Finland’s Helsinki branch at Rauhankatu 17, scheduled to start in May 2026.
During the renovation, we will move our services and materials from Rauhankatu to temporary facilities located in the Helsinki region. In addition to the Helsinki region, materials will be transferred to the National Archives of Finland’s branch in Mikkeli.
The plan is start transferng materials to Mikkeli in September–October 2025. The materials to be transferred are listed on a separate page according to the record creator (in Finnish).
In total, some 34 shelf kilometres of materials will be transferred from Rauhankatu to the temporary facilities.
Materials will be transferred to the temporary facilities in the Helsinki region between October 2025 and April 2026.

The new Archiving Act has been approved
The Parliament approved the new Archiving Act on May 20th 2026. The Archiving Act provides for the archiving of authorities’ documents and data materials as well as private archive materials received by the National Archives.
