The new Astia service has been released for customer use. It is available alongside the current Astia online service and digital archive.

The new Astia allows customers to use the National Archives of Finland’s public digital datasets. In addition, customers can search for and browse public descriptions of materials archived by the National Archives of Finland.

Later, the new Astia will fully replace the current Astia and digital archive. As a result, it will enable all of the National Archives of Finland’s materials to be searched for and used through a single user interface. Due to the global shortage of components, not all functions of the new Astia are available at once.

Using online services during the transition period

For the time being, the current Astia online service will be normally available to customers. Materials can be ordered to a reading room or as interlibrary loans and data requests can be made using the current Astia.

The new Astia includes public datasets digitised at the National Archives of Finland during 2020 and 2021, as well as any datasets previously digitised in the digital archive. At present, restricted material can only be used in the digital archive’s user interface. The digital archive will be discontinued after all functions of the new Astia have been deployed.

Instructions for use available in the new Astia and on the National Archives of Finland’s website
Instructions for using the new Astia are available in the online service’s user interface. In addition, the National Archives of Finland will release videos regarding the use of the service. Remote training and in-person training in the National Archives of Finland’s locations will also be provided for the new online service, the coronavirus situation permitting. The content and schedule of customer training will be specified on the National Archives of Finland’s website as the deployment proceeds.
